Why Private Aviation FBO Transportation Is a Different Operational Tier
Most ground transportation operators in Atlanta cannot service private aviation FBOs at the executive standard. The reasons are operational rather than logistical. FBO transportation requires direct relationships with FBO ramp operations, real-time aircraft tail-number tracking (different from commercial flight tracking), familiarity with each FBO's specific protocols (security perimeters, vehicle access points, ramp procedures), and a dispatch operation that can coordinate aircraft handoff windows down to a 5-minute precision.
Chauffeurs Lane operates this tier exclusively for our enterprise account holders, Private Client members, and ad-hoc bookings made with sufficient advance notice. We coordinate with FBO operations at Signature Flight Support and Epps Aviation at PDK, and to Atlantic Aviation at FTY and RYY. We use aircraft tracking to monitor inbound tail numbers in real time and adjust staging dynamically. Our chauffeurs have worked these FBOs hundreds of times — they know which FBO entrance to use, where to stage to avoid blocking the ramp, and how to coordinate with the line crew during ramp activity.
The customers who require this operational tier are: family offices managing principal travel; corporate aviation departments at Fortune 500 firms; PE shops with portfolio company tour aircraft; AmLaw firms with G-IV-class fractional aircraft; private aviation operators (NetJets, Flexjet, Wheels Up, VistaJet); and aircraft handlers managing principal travel for ultra-high-net-worth individuals.
DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) — Atlanta's Corporate Aviation Hub
DeKalb-Peachtree Airport is Atlanta's primary corporate aviation airport, located in Chamblee approximately 12 miles north of downtown and 18 miles north of Hartsfield-Jackson. PDK handles the majority of corporate aviation traffic in the Atlanta metro and is the default FBO for most family offices, AmLaw firms, and PE shops with private aircraft access.
Signature Flight Support at PDK is the largest FBO and handles the highest volume of jet operations. Their FBO lounge is at 1951 Airport Road. Drive time from PDK Signature to Buckhead is 15–25 minutes; to Midtown is 18–25 minutes; to Sandy Springs is 12–18 minutes; to downtown Atlanta is 25–35 minutes.
Epps Aviation at PDK is the second major FBO, located at 1 Aviation Way. Epps handles a significant portion of Atlanta corporate aviation traffic and is preferred by some operators for its distinct operational style. Drive time profiles match Signature's.
For arrivals at PDK, we coordinate FBO selection with the aircraft handler at booking. We stage the vehicle at the FBO curb 10–15 minutes before wheels-down, with our chauffeur in formal attire ready to greet the principal. The principal walks through the FBO lounge — typically under 90 seconds at PDK — and the luxury sedan or luxury SUV ESV is at the curb.
Fulton County (FTY), Cobb County (RYY), and Gwinnett County (LZU)
Fulton County Executive Airport (FTY / Charlie Brown Field). West-side Atlanta private aviation, located approximately 12 miles west of downtown. Atlantic Aviation operates the FBO. Less crowded than PDK at peak hours, which makes FTY preferred for some principals who value faster ramp turnaround. Drive time FTY to Buckhead is 20–30 minutes via I-285 or I-20.
Cobb County International Airport (RYY / McCollum Field). Northwest metro private aviation, located in Marietta approximately 18 miles northwest of downtown. Atlantic Aviation FBO. Common for principals based in or visiting Marietta, Kennesaw, Smyrna, or surrounding northwest metro. Drive time RYY to Buckhead is 25–35 minutes.
Gwinnett County Airport (LZU). Northeast metro private aviation, located in Lawrenceville approximately 30 miles northeast of downtown. Common for principals based in Lawrenceville, Duluth, Suwanee, Sugar Hill, or visiting northeast metro destinations. Drive time LZU to Lawrenceville is 5–10 minutes; LZU to Buckhead is 30–40 minutes.
All three secondary FBO airports use the same coordination workflow as PDK. Aircraft tracking, FBO ramp coordination, chauffeur staging 10–15 minutes before wheels-down, sub-4-minute deplane-to-vehicle target. Vehicle selection and chauffeur assignment match the same standards as our highest-volume PDK operations.
Operational Standards for Private Aviation FBO Transportation
Aircraft tracking. We monitor inbound tail numbers via aircraft tracking services for the duration of the flight. If the aircraft's filed flight plan changes, our dispatcher is notified. If the aircraft diverts (weather, mechanical, ATC), we reposition the chauffeur to the new airport without surge — diversions are billed transparently.
Vehicle staging. Chauffeur arrives at FBO curb 10–15 minutes before wheels-down. For early arrivals (aircraft arrives ahead of ETA), the chauffeur is already on-site. For late arrivals (aircraft delayed), the chauffeur waits at the FBO without time penalty — wait time is included in the FBO transportation flat rate up to 60 minutes after wheels-down, similar to international commercial arrivals at ATL.
FBO entrance protocol. Our chauffeurs know which entrance to use at each FBO (some FBOs have separate principal vs. crew entrances), where to stage to avoid blocking the ramp, and how to identify themselves to FBO security. We do not require the principal to provide entry instructions or escort the chauffeur through any access points.
Confidentiality. Standard NDA coverage applies. For private clients with elevated discretion requirements, we layer enhanced identity-protection protocols including identity-restricted dispatch (the chauffeur is told only the FBO and time, not the principal's name), alternate pickup positioning, and exclusion of any vehicle marking. Aircraft handlers managing celebrity, athlete, or ultra-high-net-worth principals can request these protocols at booking.
Pricing. FBO transportation is priced as flat rates per route based on FBO and destination, with the same surge-proof guarantee as commercial airport transfers. Recurring engagements through Private Client membership or enterprise account include capacity guarantees on premium fleet during major Atlanta peaks.
